Simplify! Simplify! Is the message of Henry David Thoreau in his beautiful book Walden. In it, he writes of giving up all his worldly belongings and traveling to the woods of Massachusetts to build a cabin, live from the land and meditate. We do not have to go to this extreme to become close to nature, of course, but what I love the most about Thoreau's message is his summary in this most profound statement: A man is rich in effort to what he can afford to let alone.Think about this idea for a second. Does its clarity ring through to you? To me it says: Simplifying is good for the soul. What's more? I believe simplifying is also an important key in keeping your energy purified and in so keeping your body and soul pure, as well.With this in mind: as we head into summer here in upstate New York I can think of no better time to roll up my sleeves and shed the old to make room for the new. The reality is, it is hard work. Yet, I'll make it simple for you if you are ready to simplify, too. Heres three ideas to help keep your process enjoyable and spiritual.Take It Slow:In my book Spiritual Fitness: The 7-Steps to Living Well, I liken closet cleaning to soul cleansing. To me its the exercise and meditative process of letting go that creates space for the beautiful fresh and new. This goes for the garage, as well any other cluttered up nook or cranny of the home.Make it easy on yourself, begin by taking an hour at a time and simply looking through what you have. Next, when you are inventorying your space ask yourself What can I let go of? What kind of space can I create in my life for something new? What am I hanging onto that if I let go of would allow something better to come along?What Serves Me?When you examine each item in question, ask yourself how it is useful to you. I often say out loud to the universe: How does this (suit, pair of shoes, stack of papers) serve me? If I can give myself a reasonable answer, I keep the item, if not it gets discarded. Its just that simple.Affirm: I Already Have Everything I Need:The universe provides. In essence we already have everything we could possibly need. I can remember as a child going to a friends house to play and their Christmas tree was still standing square in the living room it was the middle of summer! Imagine what message this was sending to the universe? As you clear your space, continue to affirm: God provides. I already have everything I could possibly need.Assignment: Clean Out Your SpaceIn you mind, mentally section off your home. I like to do this by rooms, sometimes corners if theres lots of stuff in them. If theres a space where you have harbored items make this its own section. Now take one section at a time and take inventory. Take time to look at each item then decide if it serves you. If not bless the item and let it go.If you find the item does not serve you or you are unsure, keep it. Put it in a box. When the box is full go through each item once more. Next, tape up the box, date it for exactly one year from the present date. When the date comes due, throw the box away or donate the items. Finally, remember this is a constant process. And although you'll never need to give up all your worldly belongings and live like Thoreau, keep renewing your space; expect something new and wonderful to show up for the old. I think you'll be amazed at what comes along to take its place.

The "muscle spasm" is located in the pelvic floor muscles surrounding the vagina and cannot be controlled by the sufferer. It may or may not cause discomfort, burning, or pain but it may affect a woman's ability to engage in any form of vaginal penetration, including sexual penetration, insertion of tampons, and the penetration involved in gynecological examinations. It can suddenly occur in women even after years of engaging in sexual intercourse but can also occur in sexually inexperienced women. Sometimes this can be the cause of non-consummation in marriages. This can be classified as a sexual disorder with psychological causes such as past sexual trauma or abuse, psychological factors, or a history of discomfort with sexual intercourse similar to psychological impotence in males. Psychological impotence is when the male member is unable to achieve or sustain an erection suitable for sexual intercourse. Some women may have been led to believe that vaginal penetration should be naturally easy, and are shocked and upset when the muscle spasm makes penetration difficult or impossible. Primary vaginismus is when a woman has never had sexual intercourse or been able to achieve penetration of any kind. This is commonly found in adolescent and young women, and is often discovered when the sufferer attempts to use a tampon, have penetrative sexual intercourse or undergo a pap smear. Inexperienced women may experience the involuntary muscle spasm when they first attempt to have sex with their partner, sometimes out of fear of the pain and blood from breaking their hymen or if they were conditioned to think that sex is vulgar and immoral. Secondary vaginismus occurs in sexually experienced women who have endured some form of injury or trauma to the pelvic or vaginal area such as a difficult childbirth or a yeast infection. Because of the psychological nature of the condition, sexual abuse is one of the contributing factors to an attack of vaginismus. The muscle spasm can then be interpreted as the body's physical reaction to the violation by attempting to block the sexual passage, therefore making it inaccessible.Vaginismus can happen to anyone at any age. While it is indeed distressing and humiliating, the muscle spasm is treatable. Treatment can involve extensive therapy that combines education, counseling, and behavioral exercises. Such exercises include Kegel exercises for pelvic floor muscle contraction and relaxation. Vaginal dilation exercises are recommended using plastic dilators. As with any treatment, it should be done under the direction of a sex therapist or other health care provider. Ultimately, vaginismus does not only affect the female sufferer but also her sexual partner, so any therapy should involve the partner, and can gradually include more intimate contact, ultimately resulting in intercourse.

Taking long walks, indulging in a hot bath, spending some time at a day spa or getting a massage are great ways to reduce stress levels while keeping occupied. Ensuring you are distracted will help curb cravings for cigarettes.Nicotine replacement is helpful in overcoming the addiction while allowing you to concentrate on the removal of the other harmful effects of smoking. Most entail a gradual reduction of nicotine so your body becomes more used to not having it. There are many types from skin patches to gums and lozenges. Studies indicate one method is no better than the next and is dependent on personal preference. Acupuncture and hypnosis have gained popularity as ways to help quit smoking. Consult a physician for a referral to a reputable hypnotist or acupuncturist before committing to this type of treatment. Making the decision to "quit smoking" can be one of the most difficult things to do but will greatly benefit you in the long run. With a little support from friends and family the process will be much smoother. Try to stay active to distract from cravings. If you have intense withdrawals use a nicotine replacement such as a patch or gum to help curb cravings. The advantages of living a smoke-free life are many.
